Not just trans friendly physio, but also trans informed

Why beyond trans friendly physiotherapy?

Traditional physiotherapy still centres the cis-experience, and while LGBTQIA+ friendly physio is becoming a more popular in Melbourne, I believe that healthcare needs to go beyond just "friendly" but be properly informed and familiar with the needs of the person in front of you.

In providing specific physiotherapy care for trans and gender diverse folk, I aim to provide a place where people don’t feel like they’re a second thought, where they don’t have to shoulder the burden of educating their health professional, and where they’re able to receive physiotherapy that understands the full spectrum of their experiences, along every stage of the journey of gender identity.

Specific services offered include:

  • Top surgery pre-hab and rehab

  • Managing the physical effects of binding

  • Gender affirming exercise prescription

  • General physiotherapy through a T&GD-informed lens

I am very lucky to be practicing out of Trans Space, in Brunswick, a multidisciplinary health service that provides trans affirmative support to trans & gender diverse people and their families. You can find out more about Trans Space at www.transspace.org.au
